“distance and desires” is a collaborative EP by BinaTheFirst and Izö, aka Funk Izö. This project is a testament of young love, resilience and loss. BinaTheFirst and Izö take us through a palette of their experiences.

Influences and inspiration
For “Great guy” The lead single of the project. We started out with a collage drawing influences from where we met and worked on most of this project; Lagos. Following my inspiration led me to exploring YouTube. For the final cover, obinna drew inspiration from Pinterest and MWTV effectively brought the idea to life. Elements like typography and palette choices on the final cover came as a result of iterating on initial designs
What it felt like
For me it was a new experience. I took much more responsibility on this project than I ever had and I feel this bled into other projects I was working on during the time period. I learnt so much about assertiveness especially as a creative person. The music in my opinion also sounds fresh. I recommend listening to distance and desires.
Obinna on Great guy’s creative design:
“well i wanted to text to be 'Great'. lol. despite that, i wanted the image behind it to be projected well, without the text taking most part of it .. i was intentional about balance and arrangement of the image as a whole”
